티스토리 뷰

You have just read and article in an international travel magazine which contained some information about your town that is incorrect.
Write a letter to the editior of the magazine. In your letter
- correct the information in the article
- explain why it is important for the magazine to give correct information
- suggest what the magazine should do about this situation

Dear Sir or Madam,

I am a regular reader of your magazine and I was very pleased to find your article about traveling around Seoul, where I live. However, I would like to inform you that some of the information that you provided in the “Editor’s travel tips” section this month is incorrect.

You mentioned that the wet season in Seoul lasts for 5 months, and that the heavy rain makes trips less enjoyable from May to September. Actually, the rainy season in Korea typically lasts for less than a month, from late-June to mid-July. As you know, having access to accurate information about weather is critical for tourists, because it enables them to plan their trip so as to avoid poor weather. Thus, as a result of the information presented in your article, the number of tourists could decrease during the 5-month period.

As your magazine has a good reputation among travelers, I am very worried that many people will take note of the inaccurate information. Accordingly, I’m politely requesting that a correction to the article (should) be printed in your next issue.

I hope that my suggestion will be considered.

Yours faithfully,

Suyoung Kim

Dear Sir or Madam,

The latest edition of your travel magazine included an article about Cambridge, but this contained incorrect information. The writer described the University of Cambridge as being the oldest in the world whereas in fact the oldest university in the English-speaking world is in Oxford. The University of Cambridge was founded in 1209, but Oxford was known to have exited in 1096.

A magazine such as yours has an international reputation and is extremely influential with travel companies and individuals alike. It is essential that any information published should be accurate and reliable and I was genuinely surprised that the fact had not been checked prior to publication.

I feel at least the magazine can do is to publish a correction and an apology in next month's magazine. I would also urge you to ensure that all factual information is thoroughly checked before publication.

Yours faithfully,

Alan Watson
